This will be our second ambient & experimental series at Bossa Nova Civic Club! Metamorph is an immersive experience that utilizes music and live visuals to incubate a shift in perception. This event is free! Like the first one there will be rugs on the dance floor. We’ve also figured out a better setup for visuals and lighting to set the mood.

Otodojo: From anime-inspired beats to minimal ambient microhouse, otodojo resists confinement in any particular genre. The name ‘otodojo’ is translated to ‘a sound place for learning’, which reflects its function: an environment built for experimentation, and free from expectation.

Tenkai: Tenkai is an ambient & experimental artist who will be coming from San Franscisco to perform a modular live set. Founder of Zetaohm and creator of the modular synth FLXS1, he pushes his music to other-worldy boundaries that stands true to an artform in itself.

Lisa Dowling: Lisa Dowling is a bassist and improviser living in New York. Her playing has been described as ‘energetic and precise’ by the New York Times and ‘sublime and lovely’ by Bruce Gallanter of the Downtown Music Gallery. Her debut CD ‘The Invention Room’ with Sitarist and electronic improviser Gian Luigi Diana, was praised as ‘exotic’ (DMG) and is distributed by the Downtown Music Gallery. As a versatile musician she performs a wide variety of music including baroque, experimental, classical, jazz and hip-hop. She considers improvising and collaborating with artists from all backgrounds essential to her development as a musician and human being. Her energetic and feisty commitment to new music and emerging composers has resulted in over 12 works for double bass written specifically for her. She has also premiered additional works from American and European composers. Her primary focus as a musician is to develop the sound world of the electric and upright bass and abolish any preconceived limitations of these instruments.

Jad Atoui feat. Michael Coltun: Jad Atoui is a Lebanese music composer and electronic sounds experimentalist. He’ll be playing with michael Coltun who will be improvising on the bass throughout Jad’s performance. Jad Atoui ,using his electronic gear and field recordings that express raw sounds as they appear to us through nature, he produces and composes music that fits styles of ambient, dub techno and glitch. The sonic feel in this body of work shifts from ambient to purely electronic, harsh yet hypnotizing sounds. His work has been featured in Pompidou Center (2012, Paris). As for performances, Jad Atoui performed with renowned artists like John Zorn, Ikue Morie and Erik Friedlander.

AJ Clay: A NYC resident AJ Clay has been spreading his deep, techy, progressive sound throughout the city. When it comes to DJ’ing, AJ believes in one thing: the programming of a night. His name is well on the way to standing for a brand that represents a certain mixture of sounds that build and progress as the night carries on. Also, with a deep passion for ambient & down tempo; AJ has been exploring his more experimental roots as of late. For this particular night he will be laying down an ambient & down tempo DJ set for us.

They came, they drank, they ate, and they listened to some rocking Michael Jackson tunes spun by DJ Nutritious. (Yes, really, a DJ named Nutritious at a food event. Almost too much.) This year’s Brooklyn Shaken & Stirred event, hosted by Brooklyn Exposed in the white-washed brick space of The Green Building in Carroll Gardens, was a raucous gathering of Brooklyn restauranteurs, spirits-makers, and food enthusiasts.

“There’s way more booze here than last year, and much less food,” said Greenhook Ginsmiths proprietor Steven DeAngelo, hinting that it was likely to be a tipsy evening for all involved. Table after table served stirred and shaken cocktails, some crafted by restaurants and others made by the distilleries themselves…
