Pulse Radio Exclusive Mix & Interview | Nutritious: “Blending Magic, Defying Genres, Embracing Eclecticism”

“Brooklyn based DJ/producer Nutritious is a modern day musical renaissance man “steady blending magic, defying genres, embracing eclecticism.” In addition to making and playing music, he has also dabbled in other artistic pursuits such as crafting sets for fashion shows and exhibitons around the world, producing films, and using his talent to benefit outreach initiatives. His tour has brought him to a variety of places around the world such as The Whitney Museum of American Art, Winter Music Conference, a show in Nicaragua, and his two year residency at the Ace Hotel in New York. He has his own label, SpinSpinNYC, and is known for his Brooklyn Shakedown and Festish Authentic parties. We had a chance to catch up with Nutritious to discuss his production process, some of his musical inspirations, dropping out of college to become a DJ, his love of art, and his feelings on the EDM craze…”

Barrow’s Intense Ginger Medjool Lassi

We here at SpinSpinNYC are inspired by modern and traditional delights found across the globe. We discover new wonders in our travels and take pleasure in creating our own blends, fusions if-you-will, of music, events and the culinary treats that accompany our good times.

Today we bring you our own ginger infused medjool date lassi. We’ll be serving this one up at Thanksgiving – a homage of sorts to the ludicrousness of Columbus’ voyage to America and the subsequent systematic pillage of our great country’s natives. Supposedly, Christopher was eager to reach the East Indies in hopes of securing trade routes to the more elusive, treasured spices of great Asia…look no further as we toast one to the tireless fruits of European imperialism.

Barrow’s Intense Ginger Medjool Lassi
single serving 8oz

2 Large Organic Medjool Dates (pitted)
6oz. Plain Organic Yogurt
1.5oz Barrows Intense Ginger Liqueur
1/4 Teaspoon Raw Organic Honey

Combine all ingredients in a Vitamix blender and blend until smooth, approximately 30 seconds.
Serve chilled in a rocks glass or over ice.

New York City Should Be Called ‘The Big Oyster’ | The Huffington Post

Raw. Sexy. New York City. “Eve can keep her damn apple,” I kept thinking as I made my way through the sexiest, most exotic oyster soiree I’ve had the pleasure of attending, nestled snugly in a private 21st Century clubhouse, hidden in a Flatiron loft. The room was purring

Recap: Brooklyn Shaken & Stirred 2013 | The Village Voice

They came, they drank, they ate, and they listened to some rocking Michael Jackson tunes spun by DJ Nutritious. (Yes, really, a DJ named Nutritious at a food event. Almost too much.) This year’s Brooklyn Shaken & Stirred event, hosted by Brooklyn Exposed in the white-washed brick space of The Green Building in Carroll Gardens, was a raucous gathering of Brooklyn restauranteurs, spirits-makers, and food enthusiasts.

“There’s way more booze here than last year, and much less food,” said Greenhook Ginsmiths proprietor Steven DeAngelo, hinting that it was likely to be a tipsy evening for all involved. Table after table served stirred and shaken cocktails, some crafted by restaurants and others made by the distilleries themselves…
