San Francisco | Mushroom Jazz with Mark Farina and Nutritious at Mighty 2.8.2013

It’s been about a year since Nutritious and Mark Farina shared the decks at Mighty in San Francisco for a special evening of Mushroom Jazz.

Last year’s collaboration was magic. We’ve been looking forward to this reunion ever since. Not to mention, we’ve got Afrolicious DJs, Senor Oz and Pleasuremaker, hosting in the lounge this time ’round.

Check out some ZoeCam!!! footage for a taste of what’s to come:

Alt Citizen Magazine | Artist Spotlight: Zoe Wilder and Nutritious [Interview]

“One never knows what to expect from entering a party hosted by Zoe Wilder and Nutritious. And when I darted off the M at Myrtle Ave and walked towards Bizarre, I felt both tingling anticipation and a touch of madness, as though my conscience was dogged between a devil and an angel on my shoulders. I was estranged by the beauty of the building and the obscenity of two blow-up dolls crouched in the window. On the sidewalk, a man with a megaphone, a tuba player, and a percussionist beckoned passerbys, “Come drink a beer! Come drink a beer!”

I walked past DJ Nutritious, who stood smiling from the stoop above, and went straight to the bar. Zoe Wilder was busily tending the beautiful wooden bar. She gave me a beer, introduced me to Nutritious, and told me the band outside was called Stumblebum Brass Band. Within ten minutes, I was sharing the drum kit with Nutritious and their drummer. After a full set, I sat down with Nutritious.”

How did you become a part of the SpinSpinNYC family?
I was Invited to one of the weekly parties by Taylor Flash. He told me about the awesome house music that gets played. I was sold because I love house music and there aren’t many places in New York that actually play house or dance music all night.

Describe your relationship to the underground music scene.
I started off going to raves in November of 2011. It became a weekly thing for me, to go to a rave every weekend. I met some people and made connections and eventually started to Go Go dance at the raves. Now, I am promoting the raves and parties I go to or dance at.

What are your impressions of the rave scene?
When I first got into the scene I fell in love. There was so much energy and love for that hard bass beat that’s found in all the rave music. I discovered Hardstyle, Hardcore, Trap, Deep House, Drum And Bass, and Electronic Dance Music. I even learned two forms of dance that I have never seen nor taken before. I learned to Melbourne Shuffle (and no it’s not like what the group LMFAO does) and I learned to Tektonic.

Tell us about some of your favorite parties in NYC and what makes them so special.
I always have a blast at any rave or party that has a theme or requires me to dress up. Some of my favorite raves were Electric Ave, Far Far Away Land, and Sour Patch Kid (where I did my first go go dancing gig). My favorite Fetish Authentic parties had to be the Thanksgiving Eve party and the party for Nutritious’ birthday that had Dennis Ferrer headline.

What song / artist / album can you not get enough of lately?
I am extremely obsessed with Daft Punk. If I was stuck on a deserted island, and could only listen to one artist while I’m stuck there it would definitely be Daft Punk.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by the Arts. Anything pertaining to music, dance, painting, drawing, poetry, singing, theatre, and photography really opens up my creativity. I love to express myself through acting, singing and dancing. That’s why I am a Musical Theatre Major in school. I also love to see how others express themselves through their chosen medium of art.

We know you like to dress up and make costumes. What are some of your favorite looks and what type of music do you like to listen to as you make them?
My favorite costume to date has to be my Mystique from the Original X-Men Comic Book. Next, would have to be my Jade from Mortal Kombat costume. It usually take me about three days to  make a particular costume, and while I’m putting it together I like to listen to mellow music that will keep me focused and working at a steady pace. So, I usually play Amy Winehouse, Adele, Enya and Dido.

Where can we find you online?
You can find me on Facebook:
